More About Kate

Mindfulness practice has been at the core of Kate’s life since 2004 when she started learning meditation at a Buddhist center in the San Francisco Bay Area. She has since studied mindfulness meditation extensively in Southeast Asia and vital centers in the United States, including Insight Meditation Society and Spirit Rock Meditation Center.  In 2008, Kate took the opportunity to teach mindfulness to students in their classrooms. This was before the mindfulness education craze began and was cutting edge. She instantly fell in love with the work and was deeply inspired by the difference mindfulness programs made in her students’ lives and their classroom teachers. Kate soon after began her professional career in Mindfulness Education, first as Director of Training for Mindful Schools and later as the owner of Heart-Mind Education.

In the last ten years, Kate has personally trained over 2500 professionals in teaching mindful awareness and compassion to kids and had the privilege of teaching over 2000 K-12 students directly in their classroom. She has experience in teaching parent programs, special day classrooms, afterschool programs, and summer camps. She has worked with educators and professionals around the United States and across the globe.

In addition to being a secular mindfulness expert, Kate is also a Buddhist Meditation Teacher and a proud member of the Teachers Council at Spirit Rock Meditation Center, and a lead teacher for their Family Program.

Kate lives in the San Francisco East Bay with her husband and young son. She finds becoming a parent has elevated her ability to teach mindfulness to children and brings a new perspective of how families can integrate mindfulness into daily life.
